Spring 1 - RE Homework

“Shining with Jesus’ Light”

In this project, children explore how Jesus is the Light of the World, guiding us, protecting us, and helping us share goodness with others. They will learn how Christians are called to shine with Jesus’ light through kindness, courage, and truth.

They will:

  • Understand Jesus as the Light of the World
  • Explore Gospel stories where Jesus brings light, hope, and healing
  • Reflect on how we can bring light to our family, school, and community
  • Recognise that we can be curious about Scripture and active in sharing God’s love

Choose 3 of the activities below

1. Gospel Light Story Retell

Choose a story where Jesus brings light or hope (e.g., healing a blind man, calming the storm, the Transfiguration). Retell it in your own words with pictures or comic-style panels. Explain how Jesus brings “light” to the situation.

2. Light of the World Symbol Poster

Create a poster with symbols of light: candle, lantern, sun, lamp, cross shining with rays. Label each one and write how it reminds you of Jesus’ presence.

3. “Shine Your Light” Challenge

Choose an action this week where you can shine Jesus’ light in your family or school—helping, forgiving, standing up for someone, including someone lonely. Write or draw what you did.

4. Create a Lantern of Light

Make a paper lantern decorated with words or pictures that reflect Jesus’ qualities:

love, hope, peace, courage, truth, kindness. Place a (safe) battery candle inside if you wish.

5. Acrostic Poem: LIGHT

Write an acrostic poem using the word LIGHT, showing what Jesus brings to the world.

6. Scripture Illumination Art

Choose a Bible verse about light (e.g., “I am the Light of the World”). Decorate it in the style of illuminated manuscripts—patterns, bold letters, gold colours, borders.

7. Light in the Community Map

Create a map of your family, school, or parish community. Add notes on how people there bring light—teachers who help, friends who encourage, family who support, parish members who serve.

8. Candle Craft With Reflection

Draw or craft a candle. On the flame write one gift Jesus shares with us. On the candle write how you can share that gift with others.

You may present your project in a folder, scrapbook, or on a poster.

Be ready to share part of your project with your class or in worship.

I can explain why Jesus is called the Light of the World.
